2011 Yard Square Quilt Funds

In 2011 the guild raised $5000.00 for the Morgan County Emergency Inter Faith Council, a food bank.  We were very proud to contributed to this fine organization and continue to be a major supporter of community services, here at home.  In previous years we have raised money for Stepping Stores, survivors of domestic abuse; Hospice of the Eastern Pan-Handle; the Morgan County Library; the Senior Life Services of Morgan County; Morgan Arts Council; and the Humane Society of Morgan County.

Thirty Somethings

As we celebrate our 30 years we are reminded of how we started and who the pioneers were.

  • On November 9, 1981, Liz Burton called several people who had an interest in quilting and an organizational meeting was held at Joanne Moulden’s home. It was during that meeting that it was decided to form a chapter named Delectable Mountains Quilters.  It was at this meeting the National Quilting Association philosophy was discussed.  Initially, it was decided to meet in member’s homes on the 1st and 3rd Monday’s of each month between 1-3 pm and Suzanne Offutt was selected as the first chairperson.
  • On November 28, 1981, the Executive Committee of the National Quilter’s Association presented Official Charter Chapter CXXXVI (136) to Delectable Mountains Quilters.
  • On December 7, 1981, Grace Grant and Irene Clark had made arrangements with the Seventh Day Adventist Church to become the regular meeting place.
  • The first group project was a simple square; the group traced patterns onto fabric, cut and began piecing!
